Last night I was invited to try a new Japanese resto – Sakamai - with my dear friend/editor Andy Wang. Sakamai in the Lower East Side – has a nice ring to it no? Slated to open today, Sakamai is primarily a dedicated Sake lounge. Instead of a sommelier, you have a trained sake master teaching you the ins and outs of the delicate rice wine. Besides for our flute tasting of unfiltered sake, we were given one of Japan’s best sake (The bottle is in Japanese below) in 3 forms: A small sized glass, a rather large sized glass and a heated version. It was quite the experience to realize how much one flavor can change so greatly in different compositions.
